In this part of the development stage, we have to present our final idea based on the concepts we came up with as a group. We decided to merge our best ideas together into one horror to make it the best possible story. This was done by creating a poster on paper and putting all our ideas and information down on it. This includes the synopsis, target audience, props, symbolic codes and subtext, giving the audience an idea of what our horror trailer 'Sweet Dream' will be about. Amy created the poster treatment and told the story of 'Sweet Dream', explaining how it will meet our sub genre and meet the codes and conventions of a horror trailer. This blog page is made by Simon & Lexcye.
This is the poster Amy created for the treatment of our horror idea, 'Sweet Dream'.
TITLEThe title of our group film, is shown on the poster in big bold writing at the center, it's 'Sweet Dream'. This title was created by Amy after looking over all four of our ideas and snatching the best ideas from each one to create the best horror idea we possibly can. This title focuses on the USP of our idea of the characters experiencing a shared dream in the trailer. The use of the word 'Sweet' is ironic, as there is nothing sugarcoated in the trailer. The chosen title and design is simple and to the point, not being ruined by excessive use of fake blood and over the top fonts.

They end up finding an abandoned warehouse and decide to stay there for the night. They have fun by playing games getting drunk, and they end up all passing out and falling asleep. Two girls are killed in the dream, causing them to die in real life. The other two manage to wake up from the nightmare just in the nick of time before they too are killed. As soon as they both wake up they find that another girl also woken up and suddenly tries to kill one them. The other Girl manages to save her and kills the other girl while doing so. As she dies they ask her if it was her, who killed everyone else and she tells them all her plan to kill them all. |

The main characters are five girls. All are a group of best friends. The girls are Sara, Chloe, Zoe, Natalie and Toni.
Protagonists Antagonist Toni (Final Girl) Natalie Chloe Zoe Sara Chloe and Sara are both killed in the nightmare. Zoe is nearly killed by Natalie when she finally awakes from the nightmare, but Toni manages to save her and kills Natalie whiled doing so. |
target audience
Our target audience are mainly teenagers from the age of 15 and above. In terms of gender it is mainly aimed at girls since all the main characters females. We decided to give our film an age rating of 15 because that's the lowest age were targeting this film at due to it not being extremely gruesome for it to be needed to be rated an 18. Also because we knew that mainly teens of this age range would be attracted to this specific type of horror film. |
SUBTExt
The fear of Cancer treatment that patients are expected to go through. We decided to take a current real life fear in today's society in order for the story line to be much more relateable to today's audience. There is the fear of getting cancer itself, as well as the fear of going through the treatment due to the side affects people dread such as hair loss.

PROPS AND SYMBOLIC CODES
INSPIRATIONS |
The inspiration for our horror film synopsis came form 3 different films. We decided to pick out, and combine things we liked from each individual film, in order to come up with our unique film. The films which inspired us were Hostel, All cheerleaders die, and Nightmare on Elm street.
Hostel - From this movie we took the gruesome torture of teenagers who decided to go traveling and exploring where they were not meant to. All Cheerleaders Must Die - From this movie we took the fact that all the main characters were a group of five girls, who became linked physically and emotionally, after they all died in the same way in an accident. Nightmare On Elm Street - From this movie we took the fact that teenagers were all being tortured and being killed while they were sleeping and stuck in a nightmare. |

TARGET AUDIENCE AND SUB GENREThe sub genre of 'Sweet Dream' is Psychological and Supernatural. Therefore in the final trailer we produce, we need to include a lot of jump scares, just as psychological and supernatural real life films include.
After researching a number of horror trailers in this sub-genre, it was apparent that most of these films were rated a 15. Therefore we decided to give our trailer a 15 certificate, due to the planned graphic content, substance abuse and profanities that will be seen in the trailer. The film contains teenage/young adult characters, meaning that it would appeal to this kind of age group. Also, although it is mainly targeted at teenagers, it will also appeal to an older audience due to the mature subtext of cancer and chemotherapy. |
themes
The continuous themes in our movie are revenge and jealousy. This is because Natalie the antagonist wants to seek revenge for her mothers death in her own twisted way. She is jealous of her 4 best friends Zoe, Chloe, Toni and Sara because they all have caring and loving mothers. However her mother died due to cancer while undergoing painful tests & chemotherapy treatment. This is why she decides to kill and torture them. Because shes angry of having to constantly be reminded that she no longer has a mother, by having to constantly face and interact with her bestfriends mothers.

team logo
We decided as a team that we wanted our team logo to reflect and to represent our team name 'Splash Slasher Productions'.
This is why we have 4 slasher rip marks in red. The slasher marks represent the 'slasher' par of our name. While having the slasher marks in red represents the 'splash' part of our name as in red blood, which shows our horror theme and genre. We also decided to place our group name right on top of the marks in order for it to be popping and easy to remember. The font of the writing is in the style 'American Horror Story'. This is the name and font used in the hit American horror tv series 'American Horror Story'. We used this font because it's unique and eye-catching. Which would make the public remember our company name easily. |
